Welcome to the National Accounts course, a comprehensive introduction to the system of macroeconomic statistics that underpins modern economic analysis and policymaking.

This course is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of how national economies are measured, monitored, and compared across countries. By the end of the program, participants will be able to interpret key indicators, understand their construction, and critically assess their role in economic decision-making.

• Introduce the System of National Accounts (SNA) as the international standard for compiling economic statistics.

• Explain the concepts of GDP, consumption, investment, savings, and government accounts (by taking the example of France).

• Explore the links between production, income, and expenditure approaches

• Examine the structure and dynamics of the household sector and the corporate sector, highlighting their contribution to national income and expenditure.

• Analyze the role of national accounts in policy evaluation, international comparisons, and sustainability measurement.

  By completing this course, students will:

  • Gain practical skills in reading and interpreting national accounts tables.

  • Understand the methodological foundations of macroeconomic aggregates.

  • Be able to critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of national accounts data.

  • Apply knowledge to real-world case studies, including issues of  environmental accounting, 

  • Develop insights into the behavior of households and enterprises, and their interactions within the broader economy.
