This introductory course familiarizes students with economic reasoning and shows how it can illuminate major contemporary economic issues — growth, unemployment, inequality, macroeconomic imbalances — and inform corrective policy. It lays the foundations of economic analysis, both micro- and macroeconomic, illustrated throughout with concrete examples and statistical data, and introduces students to the use of models as a method of modern economic analysis.
