« Multiculturalism » is the object of countless academic essays and political controversies. Yet this all-encompassing category often leads to conflating issues partaking of the management of ethno-cultural and religious diversity within a given Nation-State (under the headline of “minority incorporation”) with those related to the reduction of group inequalities reflecting past and/or present discrimination of a morally objectionable kind. Antidiscrimination policies, and affirmative action policies in particular, are meant to address such self-perpetuating inequalities specifically. The seminar will address some of the challenges attached to the growing ethnoracial diversity in multicultural societies by inviting researchers to present their recent works on the topic. We will also analyze some controversies that have been taking place in scientific and political arenas.
