    Master Thesis

Master thesis is a Research project that starts in October 2019 and finishes with a defence, on Septembre 2020.

Both Apprenticeship students and students following the Classical studies (with an Internship at the end) have to write and defend their Master Thesis following the same guidelines below.

Students doing the Enterprise Creation project will follow specific guidelines; they will not be concerned by the Master Thesis.

The Calendars (with the dates of Tutoring sessions and dates for thesis defence), list of supervisors, proposals for thesis subjects, guidelines for thesis preparation and other important information regarding organisation and evaluation of the Master Thesis will be published on this page

      • PROPOSITION DE SUJETS / PROPOSAL OF MASTER THESIS SUBJECTS

You find a list of some research questions / ideas that can be explored during the M2 Master Thesis in the document below. These subjects were proposed by CRI researchers and MIAGE faculty members.

For your master thesis, you can choose any subject from this list*.  Alternatively, you can continue working on your subject explored during your M1 Mémoire de Recherche or can propose a new subject. Do not hesitate to discuss it with your university supervisor.

*) Master Thesis is an individual project: while several students may choose the same subject from the list as a starting point, they will have to elaborate/personalise their research topic with their respective supervisor.

If you have a question regarding a concrete subject from the list - please, contact:

      • Master thesis IKSEM

You will make a research project during this year and document it in a Thesis manuscript (in English!). You can choose a subject from the list  proposed by CRI (see the documents on top of this page). You can also continue the work on the subject you explored during your Mémoire de Recherche M1 or define your own research subject from scratch.  Do not hesitate to discuss that with the university supervisor.

        calendar 2019/2020:

        TS1:*  Problem proposal - 28/11/2019

        TS2: Definition of research methodology - 14/01/2020

        TS3: Project Progress Presentation - 14/05/2020

Submission of the First Version of the Thesis Manuscript - 31/05/2020

Submission of the Final Version of the Thesis Manuscript - TBD (14 days before the Final Defence)

        Final Defence: TBD

        *TS = Tutoring Session

ATTENTION: To work on the Master Thesis and to prepare for the Tutoring Sessions, you need to contact your supervisor and to schedule the individual follow-up meetings!

        Research Project

M2 is an academic degree. As a part of your University study, during your master thesis preparation, you will learn how to do an academic research?

        In particular:

        - how to identify a research question?

        - how to work with research literature?

        - how to make hypothesis and choose strategies for solution?

        - how to apply research methodology in practice?

        - how to validate results?

        - how to communicate your results?

        - how to write a scientific document?

        MAster Thesis: Document structure

We propose the following structure for a Master Thesis. It follows a typical structure of a research article and can be adjusted based on your concrete research problem and methodology.

        Abstract

        1. Introduction – 5%

        2. Background – 5%

        3. Research methodology – 10%

        4. Solution/results – 35%

        5. Analysis/discussion of results – 25%

        6. Related works – 10%

        7. Conclusion/future work 10%

        Bibliography

        * The % indicate the importance of the contribution of each section into the thesis; it also corresponds to approximate volume (in pages) of the section in the document.

For the details on each section, see the Guidelines in the document below.

For the  Cover page Master Thesis IKSEM, please use the document below.

        Tutoring sessions

Tutoring sessions are milestones of your master thesis.  Here you have a possibility to communicate your progress and get feedback from the jury (typically 2 people). Please, see the examples of Evaluation forms below to get an idea about how the tutoring sessions are organised.

        Evaluation

The Master Thesis is evaluated based on the tutoring sessions (TS1 - TS3), a Master Thesis manuscript, and a final thesis defence. See the detailed Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria for IKSEM Master Thesis in the documents below:
