Overview:
This course aims at introducing the main topics of cognitive psychology and the methods to study them. We will introduce the basic cognitive functions (i.e., attention, memory encoding/retrieval, language processing, perception, decision-making etc.) and make the link with economic decisions. During each class, we will explore (1) how to study cognitive functions using experimental methods, (2) the underlying cerebral correlates of these functions.
Each lecture will include both a theoretical presentation and a scientific article presentation. The tutorials will include small experiment demonstrations and will follow the topics of the weekly lectures. This includes being trained on coding yourself (in html, css, javascript) simple versions of some of the experiments that were explained in class –under the supervision of the tutor. The tutorial will sometimes consists in focusing on a particular model (e.g. prospect theory model for decision-making under risk) from how to model it in Python to playing around with the model parameters.
Students are expected to be active in the construction of their knowledge through strong participation during classes and tutorial, continuous reading of the proposed chapters and articles, as well as through their involvement in small individual presentations and group experiments. This will be part of the grading.
