    • Dear students of the GGRC Master's program, welcome to your English lecture!

The program is part of the Teaching Unit #4 called "Retour d'expérience" (= Lessons learnt in English) and it counts for 2 ECTS credits out of the 30 ECTS of this semester. We will spend 18 hours together. This lecture aims at providing you with a basic knowledge of English for working in an international context. The prerequisite for this module is a pre-intermediate level of English. You will be coached to work in an international working environment.

Teaching staff: Alan Liotard, Part-Time Teacher at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne and alumnus of the GGRC Master's program (2015). I currently work as a Risk Manager in an international company in the insurance sector. I am responsible for information security and outsourcing projects at the global level. I also bring 7 years of experience in a distribution firm where I was responsible for a business continuity program for European, Middle-Eastern and African regions.

    • In this lecture, you will be trained to speak and introduce yourself in an international context. An opportunity to do a Resume and a Cover letter will be given to you. We will also go through case studies about risk management within the workplace environment that will give you a chance to learn and put into practice the technical vocabulary in this area.

    • Within the GGRC Master's program, you are introduced to a wide range of techniques and methods to anticipate and to manage risks and crises. In this lecture, you will be invited to take a step back from what you already know and think out of the box to analyze risk and crises in another language. By the end of the course, you should feel comfortable in initiating a discussion on a specific topic about risk management in English.

    Context:

The partial reopening of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, which was the focus of a recent terror alert, suggests that the immediate threat of a terrorist attack has passed. Officials cannot be certain whether the alert disrupted planning for a possible attack, whether the threat was a bluff or whether the intelligence that led to the alert was flawed. The issue of warnings is a specialty within the intelligence community, but the recent episode underscores how much uncertainty surrounds the field.
