    Subjects
    As a "starting point" for your master thesis, you can choose one subject from the list of subjects proposed by CRI researchers and MIAGE faculty members.

    Alternatively, you can continue working on your subject explored during your M1 Mémoire de Recherche or can propose a new subject. Do not hesitate to discuss it with your thesis supervisor.

    The master thesis is a research project that will follow the guidelines of academic research. The Research Methodology  class supplies the theory and provides the HOWTOs for this project.

    This project will have 3 intermediate milestones (aka "Tutoring sessions") and will terminate with a Defence. 

    Every student is expected to closely interact with her appointed supervisor, organising the regular meetings and following the received feedback. 

    The details regarding the tutoring sessions, organisation of the project, preparation of the manuscript and evaluation guidelines can be found in the sections below.

    Master Thesis Organisation

    You will make a research project during this year and document it in a Thesis manuscript OR a Scientific research paper. You can choose a subject from the list  proposed by CRI,  continue working on the subject you explored during your Research Thesis M1 or define a new subject. 

    Tutoring sessions:

    Tutoring sessions (Séances tutorales) are obligatory; During these sessions you will present your progress on your research progress and obtain a feedback from a jury. The details on the objectives, deliverables expected  and evaluation guidelines for each TS can be found in the documents below. 

    TS1:  Problem proposal and definition of Methodology - A part REC-METH class 

    • 5 min presentation + 5 min discussion

    Submission of the complete draft of the Thesis Manuscript :

    Submission of the Final Version of the Thesis Manuscript - 1 week before the Final Defence

    Final Defence: 

    Anticipated (in agreement with the supervisor): June-July - @PMF (TBD) 

    Regular: September @PMF (TBD)

    • presence of MA is very welcome
    • final version of the manuscript to be transmitted in PDF (or printed out if requested by a jury member) to all the jury members

    ATTENTION: To work on the Master Thesis and to prepare for the Tutoring Sessions, you need to contact your supervisor and to schedule the individual follow-up meetings 

    EVALUATION

    The Master Thesis is evaluated based on the tutoring sessions (TS1 - TS3), a Master Thesis manuscript, and a final thesis defence. The tutoring sessions are not gradet, though they provide the indicators on the further success of the project.

    • Presentation of the related literature and positioning of your work with respect to the related literature
    • Presentation of the methodology/research protocol: evaluation of the project feasibility

    Master Thesis Upload

    • Your thesis must be submitted to the jury for final evaluation not later then 1 week before the defence date.
      To submit your thesis, you must provide the link on the google-drive folder with a Drive link to a folder named:

      YEAR-MasterThesis_PROMO_LASTNAME

      and containing the following subfolders: 

      1. Thesis
      • Declaration of non-plagiarism in PDF format.
      • Authorization for distribution, which will enable your thesis to be archived, if you give your consent and it is accepted by the jury.
      • A PDF version of the thesis*, formatted according to the recommendations (no constraints on document length). 

      *)If a research article has been written and/or submitted to a conference during the thesis project, this article may substitute the thesis, provided that it is accompanied by:

      • Extended Introduction — explaining the motivation behind the work and presenting contributions that may not be fully reflected in the article;
      • Extended Methodology — providing a detailed presentation of the research methodology (conference papers typically contain a condensed methodology section);
      • Appendices — containing materials that were not included in the publication (e.g., diagrams, tables, additional explanations, discussions, reviewers’ feedback if the article has already undergone peer review).
      1. Articles

      A folder containing PDF versions of all research articles that were used and cited in the thesis (appear in the reference list).

      1. Data

      A folder containing all research data (depending on the research method used) necessary to reproduce the results. Examples include: reviewed articles, interview transcripts, questionnaires, scripts, prompts, raw / cleaned / coded datasets, source code, etc.
