This seminar examines the political history of the body in contemporary art throughout the lens of gender from the 1960s to the present [alternative: since the 1960s]. Considered as both a political and artistic medium, the body encapsulates, within its shifting contours, the social histories of the figure, anatomy, organs, perceptions, gestures, and movement. Sessions will alternate between case studies and collective reading exercises, with the aim of situating this inquiry within current debates and international research. This semester, special attention will be paid to the issue of intersectionality.
The seminar will be held in English and French.
