SUMMARY
The course is organized in two parts and held entirely in English. In 12 Lectures, the course will cover theoretical and applied theoretical work on Economic Growth. Evaluation will take place on the basis of a final written Exam and in the form of a written mid term exam, a project and participation for the tutorial part. The final exam counts for 50% of the final grade and the mid-term and the project for the remaining 50%.
The first part will cover two models in Economic Growth: the Solow-Swan model and Overlapping Generations Models. In the second part we wil study together published papers that deal with various issues like education, health, inequality, pollution and the environment.
OBJECTIVE
Economic growth is at the root of the economic profession. Building on standard growth models, the recent decade has brought forward a large amount of new literature and research about the topic. This course is aimed at building a theoretical understanding about economic growth.
GRADING
As described in the PSME guidelines, the final grade will consist out of 50% Lecture exam grade and 50% tutorial grade.
