This course is made up of 5 seminars, each 2 hours in duration. The course aims to introduce you to the sources and techniques of the English common law, from a substantive and methodological viewpoint. The themes include: an overview of common law reasoning; precedent and reasoning by analogy in theory and practice; how to find the law; how to carry out legal research and use online resources;  judicial law-making and the significance of dissenting opinions; the impact of the UK Supreme Court and the US Supreme Court.
